Kiwi entrepreneur Kate Ricketts creates biofluorescent nit powder for head lice visibility, winning a UN Sustainable Development Goal innovation award.

A Kiwi mother and entrepreneur, Kate Ricketts, has created the world's first biofluorescent nit powder to improve visibility of head lice, address stigma, and increase access for vulnerable children. The product won a United Nations Sustainable Development Goal innovation award and is now in production for domestic and international markets. Ricketts was inspired by biofluorescence, where an organism emits light after being exposed to another light source, which she observed in an insect exoskeleton.
