FAI CEO Jonathan Hill's pay exceeded government funding limits due to a "throwaway line" in an email about holiday pay.

FAI Chief Executive Jonathan Hill revealed that a "throwaway line" in an email led to him receiving extra payments that exceeded government funding limits. Hill stated that the issue of holiday pay arose in the context of another staff member applying for payment in lieu, which was agreed upon by the FAI at the time. Consequently, Hill's pay went above limits set with the government under their 2020 bailout agreement. In response, funding to the FAI was temporarily suspended.
