Over 4,700 vehicles stolen in Edmonton last year, federal gov't pledges $15M over 3 years to fight vehicle thefts, increase police capacity, and enhance info sharing with Interpol.

Canada's car theft crisis is worsening, with over 4,700 vehicles stolen in Edmonton last year, many of which are being shipped overseas for profit by organized criminals. In response, the federal government has pledged an additional $15 million over three years to fight the rise in vehicle thefts across the country. The funding will be used to increase the capacity of provincial, territorial, and municipal police services to take custody of stolen vehicles identified by the Canada Border Services Agency, as well as to enhance information sharing and investigative tactics with international police agency Interpol.
