Canadian federal government invests $15m over 3 years to combat vehicle thefts, with $9m for police services and $3.5m for Interpol coordination.
The Canadian federal government is investing $15 million over three years to combat the rise in vehicle thefts across the country. Minister of Public Safety Dominic LeBlanc announced the funding in Montreal, stating $9 million will go towards provincial, territorial, and municipal police services to increase their capacity to take custody of stolen vehicles identified by the Canada Border Services Agency. An additional $3.5 million will help officers coordinate with international police agency Interpol, making Canadian police better able to find stolen vehicles and car parts shipped abroad.
