Montreal's ARTM plans a C$10.4bn ground-level rail line for eastern Montreal, a lower-cost alternative to a C$36bn underground line.

Montreal's Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM) plans a C$10.4 billion ground-level rail line for eastern Montreal, a lower-cost option than the fully underground line proposal of C$36 billion. The new rail transit line aims to serve eastern Montreal, with a potential design resembling a tramway or light rail network. Via Rail is also focusing on speed for its high-frequency line in the Quebec City-Toronto corridor, which may run at least 200 km/h.
