Japanese discount retailer Daiso Industries founder, Hirotake Yano, died at 80 due to heart failure. Known for pioneering the dollar-shop business model, Yano started the company in 1977, charging 100 yen for all merchandise. Daiso has expanded to 4,360 domestic stores and 990 international locations, with revenue of 589.1 billion yen ($3.9 billion) in the year ended February 2023.
