India's stock market continued its upward trend for the fifth consecutive day on Monday, with the benchmark Sensex rising 281.52 points, or 0.39%, to close at 72,708.16. The broader Nifty also hit a new peak, closing at an all-time high of 22,122.25 points. Gains in financial and FMCG shares mainly contributed to the rise. Key Asian markets were mixed, with Hong Kong's Hang Seng falling 0.8% and Tokyo's Nikkei 225 losing 0.04%, while the Shanghai Composite index gained 1.4%. US markets were closed on Monday for President's Day.
