Kerala, India, introduces a "water-bell" system in schools to remind students to drink water and prevent dehydration amid rising temperatures.

In response to rising temperatures, the state government of Kerala, India, has introduced a "water-bell" system in schools to remind students to stay hydrated and prevent dehydration and heat-related illnesses. This initiative, first piloted in 2019, involves ringing a bell twice a day at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm to prompt students to drink water. Five-minute breaks are scheduled for students to replenish their fluids. The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has also issued an alert regarding above-normal maximum temperatures in four districts, advising against prolonged sun exposure. This proactive measure aligns with KSDMA's efforts to safeguard citizens against the adverse effects of rising temperatures.
