Kansas state white crappie fishing record nullified due to ball bearings found inside fish; 1964 record reinstated.
Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has nullified a Kansas state fishing record for a white crappie, initially certified at 4.07 pounds in March, after ball bearings were discovered inside the fish. The previous record, set in 1964, has been reinstated. KDWP received a tip that the fish had been weighed at a second location earlier, at 3.73 pounds. After investigation with a metal detector and X-ray examination, two ball bearings were found inside the fish. The Shawnee County District Attorney's office did not plan to prosecute, citing insufficient evidence.
