The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to a minor-league contract with veteran infielder Eduardo Escobar, inviting him to spring training. The 35-year-old switch-hitter, who has a career batting average of .253 over 13 seasons, played for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels last year, where he hit .226 with six homers and 31 RBIs in 100 games. Escobar is expected to compete for the backup infielder job with the Blue Jays.
