Pike 29 memorial walk and cycle trail opens.

The Pike 29 Memorial Track, a joint project between the Department of Conservation, Ngāti Waewae, and the families of the 29 miners who died in the 2010 Pike River mine disaster, has officially opened. This 11.5km walking and cycling track connects the Paparoa Track Great Walk to the Pike River mine and is expected to attract tourists, bringing economic benefits to the region. The track is a tribute to the miners who lost their lives in the disaster and serves as an enduring legacy for them and their families.
