NJ State Sen. John Burzichelli proposes a bill.

A new bill proposed by New Jersey state Sen. John Burzichelli would permit Atlantic City casinos to continue allowing gamblers to smoke on the casino floor with some additional restrictions. The bill maintains the existing 25% limit of the casino floor for smoking areas and allows smoking in unenclosed areas with slot machines, designated as smoking zones at least 15 feet away from live dealer table games. Casinos would also have the option to provide enclosed smoking rooms with separate ventilation, with no worker being forced to work in them against their will. This proposed legislation comes into conflict with another bill that seeks to completely ban smoking in casinos. The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network has urged New Jersey lawmakers to reject the new bill and implement a total smoking ban in casinos, arguing that exposure to secondhand smoke can cause cancer and other health issues.
