Japanese researchers produces 1st pigs designed for organ transplants.

Japanese researchers have produced three genetically modified piglets that have been cloned from a pig whose organs have been altered to prevent rejection in human transplants. PorMedTec Co., a Kawasaki-based firm, announced that the piglets were born by cesarean section on February 11. The researchers plan to transplant the pigs’ kidneys into monkeys to verify the organs' safety. If successful, they hope to start the operations this summer. The goal is to transplant pig kidneys into humans.
