Cherry growers in BC's Southern Interior face a reduced 2024 crop.

Cherry growers in British Columbia's Southern Interior are facing a challenging season due to a deep freeze in early January that damaged a significant percentage of developing cherry buds. Temperatures dipped below -25°C during the polar vortex, which caused damage to cherry trees that had not yet developed winter hardiness. The BC Cherry Association expects the 2024 cherry crop to be "dramatically" reduced, as the cherry trees were unable to cope with the sudden drop in temperature.
