Federal accident investigators urge retrofitting of cockpit voice recorders in current aircraft to 25 hours capacity, as per NTSB suggestion, following evidence loss in an Oregon jetliner incident.

The National Transportation Safety Board has suggested that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) should require all current planes to be equipped with recorders capable of capturing 25 hours of audio, compared to the current standard of two hours. The FAA had previously proposed this 25-hour standard for new planes only.
