Gujarat allocates Rs 277 crore for Asiatic lion conservation, including disease control, veterinary staff, safety measures, and addressing accident-related deaths.

The Gujarat government allocated Rs 277 crore for the conservation of Asiatic lions within the Gir and Greater Gir regions of the state. The funds will be used to enhance the lions' protection and medical care, including establishing a National Wildlife Disease Diagnostic and Referral Centre in Junagadh. The funds are part of 'Project Lion,' which was initiated by the Central government in 2020. Efforts by the state government also involve the appointment of veterinarians, the deployment of four ambulances in forested areas, and the establishment of treatment centers throughout the region.
