Food scientists discovered vaping impacts a person's sense of smell, particularly sweet smells for non-vapers.

Food scientists from the University of Otago have found that vaping can have unexpected side effects on a person's sense of smell. The study, carried out in collaboration with the National Institute for Health Innovation, involved participants aged over 18 who were either regular or casual vapers or had never used, and aimed to assess the effects of vaping on their taste and smell perception. The research, published in the journal Appetite, found that non-vapers found sweet smells more pleasant than vapers, while there was no significant difference in taste or savoury smells.
