Chennai Airport, with upcoming expansion, will accommodate long-haul, wide-body international flights, enabling it to cater to Code E aircraft like A350 and B777.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation has clarified that Chennai Airport is able to handle long-haul, wide-body international flights. The airport currently has 13 aerobridges with an additional one under construction, set to be operational by March 2024. This expansion will permit the airport to cater to Code E aircraft, which are suitable for long-haul flights. The airport is currently focusing on accommodating new-generation long-haul aircraft such as the A350 and B777. Future expansions will further enhance the airport's capacity to meet growing air traffic demands.
