Researchers use CRISPR-nanopore sensing technology to develop faster, accessible monkeypox testing method.

New research suggests that testing for monkeypox (mpox), a rare viral disease spread through physical contact, could become faster and more accessible using CRISPR gene editing technology. The current testing process requires lab equipment and takes several hours, but the new method could soon be done in any clinic. Researchers combined CRISPR gene editing proteins with nanopore sensing technology to create a genetic sequence and reporter, making the detection process quicker and easier.
