Hertfordshire County Council raises its 2023/24 overspending estimate from £13.4m to £15.7m due to increased demand, escalating costs, and inflation.

Hertfordshire County Council has increased its forecast for overspending in the 2023/24 financial year to £15.7 million, up from the previous forecast of £13.4 million. The increase in spending is attributed to higher demand for services, rising costs, and the effects of inflation. Children's services are expected to overspend their budget by nearly £19 million, while the High Needs lock, which supports special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), is forecast to have an overspend of £10.3 million. The county council's annual revenue budget is over £1 billion.
