Benton Township Police and Michigan State Police collaborate to introduce ShotSpotter, a 97% accurate gunshot-detection system in Benton Harbor and Benton Township.

The Benton Township Police Department is collaborating with the Michigan State Police to introduce the ShotSpotter program, a national crime-prevention tool. ShotSpotter detects the location and time of gunshots, with an accuracy of 97%. Once detected, the program automatically notifies the police. The sensors, placed on utility poles and other infrastructure, will be tested in Benton Harbor and Benton Township across a two square mile area. Police Chief Greg Abrams believes the technology to be useful.
