Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin has addressed a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him for personal intervention regarding the Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) Phase-II project. The state government has already approved the project, which involves three additional corridors amounting to a total of 119 km and is estimated to cost Rs 63,246 crore. However, the proposal has been pending the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) for over two years. The foundation stone for the Phase-II project was laid by Union Home Minister Amit Shah on November 21, 2020. Tamil Nadu is seeking faster approval for executing the project as quickly as possible.
