A 5.7 magnitude earthquake strikes off coast of Hawaii’s Big Island.
A preliminary 5.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Big Island of Hawaii on Saturday, February 10. The earthquake's epicenter was near Pahala and generated the potential for strong shaking in some areas. The United States Geological Survey reported six aftershocks, with the largest being a 3.3 magnitude earthquake. No tsunami was expected, according to the Office of the Governor of Hawaii and the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center. The quake took place near the southeast flank of Mauna Loa, one of the world's largest active volcanoes, but caused no reported serious damage.
