A Minnesota man facing trial for a teenager's murder in suburban Chicago in 1972 has died in his jail cell in Illinois. Barry Lee Whelpley, 79, was discovered unresponsive by prison officers on February 9. He had been awaiting trial due to DNA evidence linking him to 15-year-old Julie Ann Hanson’s death in 1972. Her body was found 24 hours after she disappeared while on her way to her brother's baseball game.
