Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong encouraged local couples to have more children in the Year of the Dragon while delivering a Chinese New Year message. He noted that many Chinese families consider a child born in the Year of the Dragon to be auspicious. The prime minister mentioned that the government has doubled the paternity leave from two to four weeks on a voluntary basis, and they will continue supporting marriage and parenthood aspirations in building a "Singapore Made For Families."
