A majority of US adults perceive air travel as safe despite doubts about aircraft maintenance and structural safety, a recent AP-NORC poll indicates.

Despite recent aircraft scares, a majority of U.S. adults believe air travel is safe, according to a new AP-NORC poll. The poll indicates that around 70% of U.S. adults view planes as safe methods of transportation. However, only around 20% of respondents have a great deal of confidence that airplanes are properly maintained or free from structural faults. Around 50% have a moderate level of confidence in regards to these matters. The poll was conducted following a recent in-flight incident involving an Alaska Airlines jetliner.
