The Carter Center's mental health parity awareness campaign in Georgia increased public awareness of mental health rights and decreased perceived barriers to care, particularly among underserved communities.

The Carter Center reported a significant increase in the public's awareness of mental health rights in Georgia after launching its first state mental health parity awareness campaign. The campaign began after the passage of the Mental Health Parity Act of 2022 and targeted underserved communities in Albany and Savannah. It aimed to educate the public about their legal right to insurance coverage for mental illness and substance use disorder treatments. Following the campaign, there has been a notable decrease in perceived barriers to mental health care, particularly among women and BIPOC communities, and increased interest in seeking mental health care for children and dependents.
