Calcutta HC On PIL Claiming Women Inmates Getting Pregnant Inside Jail.

The Calcutta High Court has been informed of a significant issue, as alleged in a PIL, regarding female inmates becoming pregnant in the course of their incarceration in West Bengal's correctional facilities, resulting in a total of 196 babies currently residing within these institutions. In light of this revelation, a note submitted by the amicus curiae suggests prohibiting the entrance of male correctional home staff into the enclosures assigned to female inmates. The court has transferred all prison reform cases to a criminal division bench to further investigate the issue and evaluate appropriate orders.
