UK's High Speed 2 (HS2) northern leg cancellation results in "very poor value for money", report warns total costs significantly outweigh benefits.

The UK's High Speed 2 (HS2) project has been described as offering "very poor value for money" after Prime Minister Rishi Sunak decided to cancel the northern leg. A report by the Commons' Public Accounts Committee warns that the total costs of the project between London and Birmingham now "significantly outweigh benefits" following the decision to stop trains travelling at high speed any further north. The committee also raised concerns about the disposal of land and property no longer needed, as well as potential impacts on other rail projects.
