Minnesota Senate DFL chooses new Majority Leader.

Longtime St. Paul lawmaker Erin Murphy, a member of the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party, has been elected as the new Minnesota Senate majority leader. Murphy succeeds Majority Leader Kari Dziedzic, who announced her decision to step down due to the return of her cancer. The DFL senators held a caucus and elected Murphy less than a week before the commencement of the 2024 legislative session. She replaces Dziedzic, who led the Senate Democrats after they secured a slim majority over Republicans in the 2022 elections.
