Noto Peninsula earthquake in Japan created 2.44 million tons of waste.

The Noto Peninsula earthquake in Japan has generated an estimated 2.44 million tons of waste, including debris from demolished buildings. This volume is roughly equivalent to Ishikawa Prefecture's normal waste output over a period of seven years. The prefecture aims to collect, temporarily store, and transport the waste to processing facilities within and outside the prefecture, with a goal to complete disposal by March 2026. Failure to dispose of the waste could hinder reconstruction efforts, according to Ishikawa Governor Hiroshi Hase.
