Hertfordshire police officer Owen Hurley demoted to sergeant for selling uniform trousers on Vinted for £4, ruling as gross misconduct.

A Hertfordshire police officer has been demoted from inspector to sergeant after selling a pair of police uniform trousers on the second-hand selling app Vinted for £4. The officer, Owen Hurley, admitted to selling the trousers and said it was a mistake, done for space reasons after redecorating his home. Chief Constable Charlie Hall ruled that the incident amounted to gross misconduct. At a misconduct hearing, Hurley argued that not all mistakes are unethical and that he did not conceal his behavior to suggest deliberate wrongdoing.
