Chester Zoo welcomes a newborn chimpanzee in its conservation breeding program, which is aimed at protecting chimpanzees from dwindling populations due to deforestation and illegal activities like the wildlife trade and poaching. The baby chimp is cared for by its mother, Alice, and other female relatives in their 22-strong family group. Chester Zoo has been organizing such programs for nearly 30 years, working closely with wildlife authorities, in-country partners, and local communities to ensure the protection of endangered wild chimpanzees.
