Nigerian folklore musician, actor, and playwright Jimi Solanke passed away.

Veteran Nigerian actor, dramatist, and folk singer Jimi Solanke passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 81. Born in Ipara Remo in 1942, Solanke was a pioneer member of the Orisun Theatre Group founded by Wole Soyinka in 1961. His contributions to global entertainment spanned seven decades, with performances in Western Nigeria Television in the 1960s and international festivals in Senegal and Algeria in the 1970s. Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State described Solanke's death as a colossal loss to the theatre community and urged relatives and loved ones to celebrate his life and preserve his many legacies.
