Missouri experienced a 6% decrease in roadway fatalities in 2023, but motorcyclist fatalities reached an all-time high, rising 14% from 2022.

Missouri saw a 6% decrease in roadway fatalities in 2023 compared to 2022, with 989 fatalities reported last year, marking the first decline since 2019. Despite this progress, nearly three lives were still lost daily on Missouri roadways. The four actions advocated for by the Missouri Coalition for Roadway Safety to reduce fatalities include buckling up, keeping phones down, driving slower, and driving sober. However, motorcyclist fatalities reached an all-time high, with preliminary data showing 175 motorcyclists killed in 2023, a 14% increase from the previous year.
