India's Ministry of Home Affairs renews SIMI's ban under UAPA for five years, allowing states & Union Territories to enforce it for terrorism & communal disturbance.

India's Ministry of Home Affairs has granted authority to all state governments and Union Territories to enforce the ban on the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). The MHA has renewed the ban on SIMI for an additional five years, citing the group's involvement in spreading terrorism and disturbing peace and communal harmony in the country. Ten state governments have recommended SIMI's designation as an "unlawful association" under the UAPA.
