Indian government collected over Rs 600 crore in penalties for delayed PAN-Aadhaar linking, with 11.48 crore PANs still unlinked.

As of January 29, 2024, the Indian government has collected over Rs 600 crore in penalties for delayed PAN-Aadhaar linking, with 11.48 crore PANs still not linked. The last date for linking Aadhaar with PAN was June 30, 2023, after which those who failed to do so incurred a penalty of Rs 1,000. Unlinked PANs became inoperative, resulting in no refunds and higher deduction and collection rates. However, taxpayers can reactivate their PANs by paying the penalty fee.
