On Monday, 2024-02-05, archaeologists unveiled the discovery of a 2,000-year-old wooden funerary bed made of high-quality oak and numerous small wooden pegs, along with a well-preserved cemetery near Holborn Viaduct in London. The artifact, which includes carved feet, is the first complete funerary bed found in Britain. The ancient Roman cemetery is known to have contained wooden coffins and other artifacts during the period when the Roman Empire controlled modern-day Britain (43-400 AD). Further excavation is expected to continue until early 2024, after which archaeologists will begin conserving and analyzing these remarkable findings.
