Wayne County prosecutors appeal dismissal of manslaughter charge against ex-Detroit officer Juwan Brown for allegedly punching 71-year-old Daryl Vance, who died from head injury three weeks later.

Prosecutors in Wayne County, Michigan have appealed the dismissal of a manslaughter charge against a former Detroit police officer, Juwan Brown, who allegedly punched a 71-year-old man during a confrontation in September 2021. Daryl Vance died three weeks later from the head injury sustained in the incident. Brown was initially charged in December, but District Court Judge Kenneth King dismissed the case on January 18, citing insufficient evidence. The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office determined that Vance's death was caused by blunt force trauma from the punch. Brown was subsequently fired from the police department.
