A Maryland man, William Fernando Calix, aged 31, was arrested for theft, assault with a knife, and first-degree assault at a Safeway grocery store after cutting a loss prevention officer during a merchandise theft attempt.

A Maryland man, William Fernando Calix, aged 31, was arrested and charged with theft and first-degree assault after an incident at a Safeway grocery store. Calix and his accomplice, Christian Alexander Gonzalez, 18, attempted to steal merchandise and were confronted by a loss prevention officer. Calix then cut the officer with a knife. Both suspects were arrested, and the stolen goods were recovered. The injured loss prevention officer was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
