The Medical Research Future Fund grants money for childhood brain cancer research.

The Medical Research Future Fund has provided a $20 million funding boost for research into childhood brain cancer, with the primary focus on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a rare and aggressive form. The funding will be dispersed over seven years to support the formation of a new national consortium for clinical trials, working alongside other countries and sectors to develop new research and enhanced clinical care. The announcement coincides with World Cancer Day, during which the Red Cross and Cancer Council are encouraging Australians to donate blood and plasma, highlighting that people living with cancer are the largest users of donated blood in the country, with a need for over 10,000 blood donations weekly that is expected to increase by over 70% by 2040.
