Salt Lake City jury acquits officer Nickolas Pearce of aggravated assault in 2020 K-9 dog arrest incident.

A Salt Lake City jury has acquitted police officer Nickolas Pearce of aggravated assault charges in relation to an incident in April 2020 where he ordered his K-9 dog to bite a man kneeling against a fence during an arrest. The decision followed a jury deliberation, and had Pearce been convicted, he could have faced up to 15 years in prison. Salt Lake City Attorney Sim Gill respected the jury's decision and stated that his office will continue to oversee the use of force by law enforcement officers.
