A59 at Kex Gill closed due to safety concerns from a road crack; detour in place, a £68.8M bypass expected in autumn 2025.

The A59 at Kex Gill has been closed by North Yorkshire Council due to safety concerns after a crack appeared in the road. The closure, which began on Friday, follows the use of two-way traffic lights since last week and is expected to remain in place for an undetermined amount of time. A signed diversion will be in place during the closure, and the council is working on a new three-mile road bypass to avoid the landslide-prone section, with a completion date set for autumn 2025 at a cost of £68.8 million.
