In Havering, Met Police officer Supt Hutchison credits lower knife crime rates to stronger partnerships between council and local police in Romford town centre.

Supt Simon Hutchison, a senior Met Police officer, revealed a 33% decrease in young knife crime victims in Havering during a recent interview with the Recorder. Despite an 18% rise in knife-related crimes according to the Met Police's crime dashboard between November 2022 and 2023, knife injury offences have dropped by 41% and victims under 25 have fallen by 33%. Hutchison credits the collaborative relationships with local councils and police for the reductions, particularly in Romford town centre.
