Direct Line survey reveals the strangest items tenants have left behind in rented homes.

Direct Line business insurance surveyed 500 landlords to understand the most common and unusual items left behind by tenants after their tenancy ended. The primary concerns for landlords were dealing with rubbish and general junk, followed by clothes and kitchenware. The study also found that 32% of landlords did not have a clause in their tenancy agreement relating to the disposal of tenant belongings left behind, and only half (52%) were clear on the correct procedure to follow. Sarah Casey, Landlord product manager at Direct Line business insurance, suggests including a clause in the tenancy agreement and having the correct contact details for ex-tenants to streamline the process of handling abandoned items.
