Canadian airlines urge government to promote sustainable aviation fuel production to match US programs and combat 2% of global CO2 emissions from air travel.

Airlines are calling on the Canadian government to create measures that will increase the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) in the country. This comes as investors and suppliers need incentives to begin producing the greener oil, with the aim to match new programs in the United States and reduce airplane pollution, which makes up about two per cent of global carbon dioxide emissions, according to the International Energy Agency. Currently, Canada has not commercially produced any sustainable aviation fuel, which is typically derived from used cooking oils, animal fats, or organic waste.
