Researchers investigate castor oil as a natural, safe treatment for dry eye conditions in elderly Australians, with initial study showing significant improvements.

The University of Auckland researchers are currently conducting a clinical trial for castor oil as a potential safe and natural treatment for dry eye conditions. This comes after a successful pilot study showed improvements in symptoms. The researchers plan to carry out a more extensive double-blinded, randomized, and placebo-controlled study. If successful, castor oil could provide an alternative to existing blepharitis treatments that often have significant side effects and lead to antimicrobial resistance.
