Chicago Public Schools proposes a later start to the 2024-25 academic calendar to accommodate the Democratic National Convention, ensuring students' summer activities and adequate test preparation.

Chicago Public Schools is proposing a change to its 2024-25 academic calendar to accommodate the city's logistical and public safety needs during the Democratic National Convention in August. The proposed start date is after the Aug. 19-22 convention, as Chicago expects 75,000 visitors during this time. The change aims to allow students more time for summer camps, jobs, and other activities while also allowing adequate preparation for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate tests.
