Ohio's School Bus Safety Working Group proposes enhanced driver training, local safety feature choices, & improved retention, road safety, emergency response, but not increased seatbelt mandates.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and a state-created school bus safety working group have presented 17 recommendations to enhance student, driver, and road user safety. The recommendations address driver retention, school bus safety features, road safety, emergency response, and commercial bus usage. The group suggests increasing advanced driver training hours while creating state funding for schools to modify their existing fleet in accordance with the safety suggestions. However, they concluded that a statewide mandate for seatbelts on buses would not be the most effective option.
