Ghana's Okada Riders Association protests the Emission Tax, introduced by the government, as double taxation, starting February 1, 2024, and targeting internal combustion engine vehicles.

The Okada Riders Association in Ghana has expressed concerns over the Emission Tax, introduced by the government, describing it as double taxation. The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) had announced the Emissions Levy Act, 2023 (Act 1112), effective February 1, 2024, aiming to impose a levy on carbon dioxide equivalent emissions on internal combustion engine vehicles. The GRA explained that the move is part of the government's efforts to combat greenhouse gas emissions, encourage the use of green energy and eco-friendly technology to improve environmental management and reduce air and water pollution.
