Digital media startup The Messenger plans to shutdown.

The Messenger, a digital media company launched less than a year ago, is planning to shut down, according to reports. The company was founded by Jimmy Finkelstein, who previously owned The Hill, and aimed to provide an alternative to mainstream news outlets. The Messenger had a staff of around 300, including journalists from prominent publications, but failed to reach profitability and will be closing down.
